Psalm 50

This morning I spent time reading Psalm 50. Beginning in verse 7, God addresses the people who claim to follow in God's ways. Evidently, these people are quite good at doing religious things, namely offering sacrifices. God actually compliments them on their religiosity, but says that all of those sacrifices were God's at the start. Every forest animal, every cow, every bird... everything! In verse 14, God says, "What I really want from you, my people, is for you to be thankful and to be true to your word."

Wow -- what a terrific word for people like me: our religious efforts are fine and good, but God is looking for so much more, something more significant, something deeper.

Today I am looking for ways to say quietly to God "thank you" in every circumstance and with every conversation. Already today I am thankful for a kind gentleman. He came to visit me in the church office just to encourage me, to tell me how much he appreciates me.

THANK YOU, GOD!
