the After-Christmas Blues

At our church's Christmas Program a few weeks ago, my four-year old son had a line... it went something like this:
"After Christmas, I feel a little let down. I don't like those after-Christmas blues."

I've now watched my children have three grand sessions of opening presents. That's right: three sessions, in three days... that equals lots of toys and clothes. I remember what it was like as a young child. I remember the feelings articulated in my son's line from the church Christmas Program.

At the risk of sounding grown up, NOW ought to be the time for the most excitement. NOW my sons can actually play with those long-awaited toys! NOW they can have the fun they've been wanting...

My prayer for today:
"Lord Jesus, help me to realize and experience the joy of your presence now."
